"The legendary Mayte Commodore, opened in 1967, was one of the emblematic restaurants in the 1970s and 1980s. Leading national and international personalities from high society, intellectuals, artists (from Lola Flores to Ava Gardner) and senior politicians met there. Following an unsuccessful reopening as a space for major events in 2016, the Remigio Group has returned it to the gastronomic scene in 2021, intending to recover its brilliant past.
Located in a building constructed by the architect, Luis Gutiérrez Soto in 1953, whose firm is also responsible for works like the Callao Cinema, the Barceló, the Retiro Tower or the Chicote cocktail bar, it consists of 1,500 m2 divided on two levels. Following a full restoration, the current space has different areas to have a drink and to hold events, presentations or meetings, all of which are livened up with good music, as well as its dining room which offers an exquisite menu.
The gastronomic proposal is by Mónica Durán, which presents a Mediterranean menu with a nod to international cuisine, in which the ingredients stand out. The wine list is extensive, as is the cocktail menu and range of spirits.
COMMODORE CULTURE
The revamped Commodore Madrid seeks to resume the cultural activity of its origins, organising diverse activities in the fields of film, story-telling, poetry, theatre or journalism, so that the space is once more a meeting point and a place for cultural dialogue as it was for decades in the recent history of Spain, culminating in the celebration of the famous Commodore Awards."
