Battle of Britain

Introduction
During the Hot Summer Months of 1940 the Countryside of South-East England Became the Stage For a Great Air Battle, Fought Over a Period of 4 Months, Immortalised as "The Battle of Britain". Armadas of German Bombers, Escorted By Fighters, Crossed the English Channel Intent On Disrupting the Country and Depriving the Royal Air Force of Any Ability To Oppose a Seaborne Invasion Force. Air Superiority Was Essential Before Any Such Invasion Could Take Place. Hitler Had Named His Master Plan "Operation Sealion" and It Was Part of His Overall Strategy For the Domination of Europe. The Threat of Invasion By a Hitherto Highly Successful Enemy Was To Impinge On the Life of Every Citizen of Great Britain, and To Require An Unprecedented Effort From the Nation.
For the First Time Since the Napoleonic Wars Great Britain'S Shores Were In Danger, For the First Time In History the Outcome of the Attack Would Depend On Action In the Air.
It Is Only Right That Such An Important Part of British History Should Be Commemorated In a Museum of Its Own. The Battle of Britain Museum, Hendon, Is Dedicated To All Who Fought During Those Momentous Months of 1940: ... This Was Their Finest Hour.
